It is crucial for BeMe employees to create a safe environment for children who are engaged with the organization.
2. Scope
Applies to all BeMe employees, BeMe Coaches, contractors, and interns.
3. Objectives
To protect children from harm on the BeMe app (which includes our coaching services) and with our Teen Advisory Board activities.
Ensure a culture of awareness, respect, and understanding of children’s rights and safety.
4. Required Child Safeguarding Training
Identifying and Responding to Child Abuse and Neglect: Employees learn to recognize signs of abuse and neglect and understand the steps to take in response.
An Introduction to Trauma-Informed Care: Training focuses on caring for children with a history of trauma, recognizing the signs, and providing appropriate support.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Competence for the Healthcare Employee: Promoting an inclusive environment that respects the diverse backgrounds of all children.
KidAware COPPA Training: Specialized training on protecting children's data in compliance with COPPA, emphasizing privacy and digital safety.
5. Mandatory Background Screening
Regardless of their role, all employees, contractors, and coaches undergo mandatory background checks prior to their onboarding.
The background screen includes Crim Radar, Multi-State Sex Offender Registry, FACIS Level 1 Search, OIG/GSA Registries Search, and other screenings relevant to ensuring the safety of children.
6. Reporting and Responding
Clear procedures for reporting suspected abuse or neglect.
Steps for immediate action to ensure the child’s safety.
Coordinate with local authorities and child protection services as necessary.
7. Review and Update
Regularly review the policies and procedures to incorporate best practices and comply with legal and ethical standards.
Update training modules as needed to reflect current knowledge and regulations.
8. Compliance
Compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal laws and regulations concerning child protection.
Employees must understand that non-compliance with this policy may result in disciplinary action, including termination.
9. Support and Resources
Provide employees with resources and contacts for guidance on safeguarding issues.
Encouragement to maintain an open dialogue about concerns and challenges related to child safety.
